An Illinois man appeared in court last week accused of murdering his estranged wife. If he killed his wife, that’s bad enough — but did he show warning signs three years ago? When Timothy Bliefnick appeared on Family Feud in 2019, he made a joke that seemed funny at the time, but now seems more like a hint of what was to come.

On February 23, one of Rebecca Bliefnick’s relatives grew worried when they realized the mother of three hadn’t collected her children from school. When they went around to Bliefnick’s house, they made a horrifying discovery; the 41-year-old Quincy, Illinois, woman had been shot to death. Three weeks later, her estranged husband was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and home invasion.
Since then, some people have raised the subject of Timothy Bliefnick’s appearance on Family Feud. The suspected killer, along with his parents and siblings, was in an episode of the popular game show that was filmed in 2019 and broadcast in the spring of 2020. During the show, host Steve Harvey asked Bliefnick what was the biggest mistake he’d made at his wedding. Bliefnick replied, “Honey, I love you, but, ‘said I do.’” That bleak joke earned him laughter — and some shocked gasps — from the audience. Now, some are wondering if it hinted at a resentment that would eventually drive him to murder.
Bliefnick’s attorney is trying to eliminate that speculation. She’s told journalists that his “silly answer to a silly question” wasn’t related to the couple’s separation and doesn’t mean he’s a murderer. She insists that he’s innocent, despite his wife having obtained a restraining order against him before her death. For now, he’s being held in custody until his second hearing and hasn’t entered a plea so far. After making his joke on Family Feud, Bliefnick said, “I’m gonna get in trouble for that, aren’t I?”
Now, he’s in a lot more trouble than anyone in the studio expected.
