President Joe Biden is going to have to grapple with low approval ratings as he prepares for his 2024 presidential bid launch. While Biden has not yet officially announced his presidential campaign, he has widely said that he fully intends on running for the White House in 2024.
Currently, his approval ratings are much lower than what one would hope before a reelection campaign sitting in the low 40s. In fact, Biden’s current approval ratings are very similar to the ratings that many of his predecessors did not manage to win in their reelection campaigns.
A FiveThirtyEight, Biden’s average approval rating showed that Biden’s ratings currently are at 43%. This marks a 9% difference from his 52% disapproval rating. It is also only 1 point higher than what Trump’s FiveThirtyEight approval rating had been on April 15, 2019.
However, it is not easy to determine whether Biden’s poor approval ratings are going to affect his reelection bid, as currently Biden is not only facing the strong disapproval of Republicans and independents, but he is also having problems with bringing high ratings among Democrats and left-leaning demographic groups.
Still, the “alternative” to Biden in the next election would most likely be Trump. The former President’s favorability ratings are even worse than Biden’s, despite the fact that his support within the Republican party has been increasing allowing him to gain a comfortable lead in the 2024 GOP primary polls.
