Rep. Adam Kinzinger, one of the most vocal Republican critics of former President Donald Trump has made a series of bipartisan endorsements ahead of the midterm elections. Among his endorsements are several Democrats who are looking to win in their states.
Specifically, Kinzinger (R-Ill.) endorsed the following Democratic secretary-of-state candidates: Steve Simon of Minnesota, Jocelyn Benson of Michigan, Adrian Fontes of Arizona, and Cisco Aguilar of Nevada.
Other endorsements included Democrat Josh Shapiro who is in the race for governor of Pennsylvania. If Shapiro wins, he would be the one to appoint the secretary of state.
Kinzinger has said that he made his 2022 endorsements by considering the position that they would be in and what was needed to defend against a potential constitutional crisis in 2024.
He also added that the wrong secretary of state can result in the country falling into chaos.
Kinzinger has backed Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, a Republican who was also essential in stopping Trump from overturning the 2020 election results. Katie Hobbs, the Arizona Democratic gubernatorial nominee also received an endorsement from Kinzinger.
Kinzinger is not seeking reelection in this midterm election. Instead, he has made his endorsements known through his leadership PAC, Country First. Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), e, and Evan McMullin, the 2016 presidential candidate who is racing against Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) are also endorsed by Kinzinger.
